Wisteria crest

The emblem (mon) of the Kujō aristocratic family of Japan, as well as the Hongan-ji school of the Jōdo Shinshū tradition of Pure Land Buddhism.

Originally the emblem of the Kujō clan, founded in the 13th century, the Hongan-ji school of Jōdo Shinshū Pure Land Buddhism later adopted it as their own in honor of the family's patronage. In a Buddhist context, its flowers symbolize the simultaneous brilliance and impermanence of life, and its downward-hanging blossoms are symbolic of humility.
