Autumn

Autumn

An old Germanic sign for the season of Autumn, used in clog almanacs.

The distinctive shape of this symbol invokes two related images associated with autumn; the downward-pointing cross is indicative of seeds and life returning beneath the earth for their upcoming winter's rest. Also, the "M" shape bears a strong resemblance to the astrological sign for Scorpio. Given that Scorpio is prominent between late October and late November, when the cold weather begins to draw in, it makes perfect sense that the impending winter would be echoed in this symbol.
